1. Special ECM Artists' Summit at the Festival

For the first time ever, the 2010 Guelph Jazz Festival is proud to curate a special ECM Artists' Summit. ECM Records was recently named both Classical and Jazz Label of the Year by Gramophone and Down Beat publications. Festival artists highlighted are rarely heard at other festivals in the region (or even the country). Highlights include:

- German based cellist Anja Lechner joining forces with Argentinean bandoneon wizard Dino Saluzzi in the acoustic splendour of historic St. George's Anglican Church. For their Guelph performance, Saluzzi and Lechner will perform from their ECM release, Ojos Negros, recently profiled in Down Beat magazine as one of the most important recordings of the year.

- composer Peter-Anthony Togni, bass clarinetist Jeff Reilly and the Elmer Iseler Singers in a special double bill collaboration with Lechner and Saluzzi.

- legendary and groundbreaking saxophonist Charles Lloyd and his remarkable new trio Sangam, with virtuoso tabla player Zakir Hussain and drummer Eric Harland.

Don't miss the new on-site music outlet set up by L'Atelier Grigorian, the established music emporium (Toronto/Oakville/London). They'll have an extensive ECM catalogue as well as additional labels and artist discographies, allowing you to shop for hard-to-find music.

ONE WEEK ONLY - In addition to the incredible price on all-inclusive festival passes, the Guelph Jazz Festival is offering a discount on the ECM shows for one week only (ending Aug. 20. Phone and in-person purchases only). Further information about ticketing can be found at www.guelphjazzfestival.com.

2. Volunteer and get a FREE ticket to any performance

We want you to get involved, and to show our appreciation, we're giving you FREE tickets to ANY performance!

Every year, hundreds of volunteers help make the Festival a success, and this year will be no different. Stage and production work, merchandising, on site maintenance, membership ... no matter what you'd like to help with, we can find a spot for you. Get involved, meet people from your community, and learn new skills.

All volunteers need to work a minimum of 6 hours before or during the Festival. Shifts vary in length. In return, you'll receive a variety of perks.

For more information about volunteering email Joel or apply online.

3. Blossoming Nuit Blanche event opened up to artistic community

Ever since the Guelph Jazz Festival announced its special all-night-long Nuit Blanche extravaganza (taking place September 11) it has received numerous inquiries from artists wanting to take part. Answering the call, the Festival opened up Nuit Blanche to all artists who share the Guelph Jazz Festival's vision - to expose audiences to improvisational art forms. The festival accepted additional applications from individuals and groups interested in participating with a performance or exhibition. A jury of artists and curators will assess the new applications. Click here for more information about the open call.
