1. Thank you to our sponsors
The Guelph Jazz Festival is proud to welcome a number of new sponsors this year including Meridian Credit Union, Delta Guelph, Wellington Brewery, Vincor (Jackson Triggs) and Barking Dog Studios. The festival has also been supported by increases in our government funding, in particular from Arts Presentation Canada (Department of Canadian Heritage) and new grants from Celebrate Ontario and the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund. In addition, the Festival gratefully acknowledges the generous contribution of Inbox Marketer in helping us produce these newsletters and deliver them to our subscribers.
For a full list of our 2008 sponsors please visit here and view the people whose generous gifts have helped bring our great jazz celebration to Guelph.
2. Festival art on display at Alma Gallery
The newly opened Alma Gallery, located in the historic Alma Block, is hosting the first ever retrospective of Guelph Jazz Festival artwork. Every year, painters volunteer their time and talent by submitting their artistic creations in the hopes that it will be chosen for that year's Festival poster. On display will be 14 of the Festival's past promotional posters -- each one showcasing the winning artist's work for that year's Festival. Also featured is the original painting for this year's poster by well-known Guelph artist Edward Kuris.
Sat. Sept. 6 - Alma Gallery, 133 Wyndham St. North, Guelph, Tel. 519-763-6392 / 519-993-0173. The gallery will remain open during the Upper Wyndham Street Jazz Tent events on Saturday until midnight. Refreshments will be served.
3. Volunteer & get a FREE ticket to any performance
Every year, more than 150 volunteers help make the Guelph Jazz Festival a success. This is a great opportunity to get involved, meet people and learn new skills with a dynamic team of people from your community. We currently need volunteers to help with the stage and production work, especially if you have stage experience, and believe it or not, steel toed boots!
One specialized area also open is the Carnavalissimo Parade with puppets produced by Jerrard Smith. We need some keen volunteers to attend a dress rehearsal Monday, September 1 at 1pm who will provide parade support. Theatre arts experience would be an asset for this volunteer position.
All volunteers are required to work a minimum of 6 hours before or during the Festival. Shifts vary in length, depending on the location of your volunteer assignment and your specific duties. In return, each volunteer will receive:
- a Festival volunteer t-shirt
- one complimentary ticket to any Festival performance (one ticket per every 6 volunteer hours completed)
- an invitation to our post-Festival volunteer party (to be held Sept. 23)
For more information about volunteering with the Festival, visit our website at guelphjazzfestival.com or contact Mary at volunteer@guelphjazzfestival.com.
