Three Thursdays of Jazz: Thursday 3
Feuermusik +
John Coltrane's Ascension
Thursday, July 17, 2008, 10 PM
presented by CFRU 93.3 FM and the Guelph Jazz Festival
Our Three Thursdays of Jazz series continues at the Bookshelf's e-bar on Thursday, July 17. We're presenting a duo of Toronto improvisers called Feuermusk (pronounced FOY-er-mu-zik), followed by a 10-piece band led by Jeremy Strachan of Feuermusik, playing John Coltrane's avant-garde landmark, Ascension.
Feuermusik is Jeremy Strachan (woodwinds) and Gus Weinkauf (percussion). They have been writing and performing experimental jazz together since 2004, with two CD releases to their name. Last year, in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Coltrane's death, Strachan led a group of Toronto musicians through Ascension at the Tranzac club. They'll do it again in Guelph on July 17. Also playing in the band will be John Kameel Farah, who performs a late-night show at the Guelph Jazz Festival in September.
This show is $6 with a non-perishable food item / $8 without, tickets available in advance at The Bookshelf and Orange Monkey (Waterloo), or at the door. The e-bar is All-ages / Licenced.
Doors open at 10 PM, Thursday July 17.
