Pulses by Jesse Stewart

Pulses (2011) is an installation/performance that features a series of water-filled intravenous bags positioned above a specially-designed clear drum set. The I.V. bags release droplets of water at different rates resulting in a series of pulses as the water droplets strike the drums and cymbals. _Pulses_ will be on display at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday September 10th until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday September 11th at which time Jesse Stewart will give a solo performance on the water-covered drums.

Former Guelphite Jesse Stewart is an award-winning composer, improviser, percussionist, visual artist, instrument builder, and educator dedicated to reimagining the spaces between artistic disciplines. He has performed with George Lewis, Roswell Rudd, Evan Parker, Bill Dixon, William Parker, Pauline Oliveros, Joe Mcphee, and many others. He is currently a member of the David Mott quintet and Stretch Orchestra (formerly Tallboys) with virtuoso musicians Kevin Breit and Matt Brubeck in addition to leading his own group, the Jesse Stewart Ensemble, and performing regularly as a soloist. He has performed at festivals throughout Canada, the U.S., and Europe. He is always happy to be back in Guelph.
