Acclaimed pianist Marilyn Crispell returns once again to Guelph for a highly anticipated solo recital. Her recent recordings emphasize a more reflective and lyrical side to her masterful piano playing.

Jaffadek (ON)

In this musical mash-up Jaffa Road is joined by members of Juno-nominated Eccodek: Andrew McPherson and Deliveryboy. Weaving their cinematic instrumental style into this cultural mix, the sound-scientist producer with sample savvy Deliveryboy will dip into Eccodek's signature palette of dubwise global fusion, blending together ancient and modern sounds from the four corners of the globe.

Ratchet Orchestra (Quebec)

Montréal bassist and composer Nicolas Caloia is a true original and his flexible 30-plus-member Ratchet Orchestra is a wonderful band that flies in the face of musical fashion, and brings to mind the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra.

The Broadview Trio (ON)

A project less than a year old, yet Mike Murley, Rich Brown, and Ted Warren bring over 60 years combined experience to the table. All three members of this band are highly regarded in the Canadian, Jazz, Funk and Big Band scenes.

Marilyn Lerner, Ken Filiano, Lou Grassi (ON/USA)

Lerner exhibits a beautiful touch that few pianists can rival and a deep sensitivity to her materials and collaborators. She brings this sensitivity to bear in this trio with veteran American musicians, bassist Ken Filiano and drummer Lou Grassi.

Fanfare Pourpour (Quebec)

The origins of this wonderful ensemble go back thirty-five years, when their precursor, L'Enfant Fort (literally "The Strong Child" and a double entendre, in French, for "The Fanfare") would parade through the streets of Montréal.

Sangam: Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, Eric Harland (USA)

Charles Lloyd, saxophones and other winds, was a key voice in modern jazz.  Zakir Hussain is internationally celebrated for his masterful contributions to the field of Indian classical music. Joining them is drummer Eric Harland, who has played with Betty Carter, Joe Henderson and Wynton Marsalis.

The Trio: Muhal Richard Abrams, Roscoe Mitchell, George E. Lewis (USA)

Though each member of The Trio is an accomplished composer, this group is committed to collective improvisation, a wonderful context in which to hear these incredible instrumentalists: George Lewis (trombone), Roscoe Mitchell (saxophone), Muhal Richard Abrams (piano).
