Bernardo Padrón Group (Ontario)
The Bernardo Padrón Group is led by the Venezuelan-born saxophonist and composer, Padrón, who adroitly harnesses the talents of a stellar lineup that includes some of Canada's most sought-after world-music and jazz artists.
The original compositions on the acclaimed CD, Tales of La Juana, are a richly complex exploration of Venezuelan folkloric tradition and an accessible contemporary jazz experience. The group provides a contrast between full-throttle jazz and more nuanced and gentle folk influences that make their live performances an engaging treat for many audiences. Apart from his work as a leader, Padrón is an accomplished collaborator in Latin, popular, jazz, and world music contexts, and his maturity as a performer lends this group its distinctive personality.
Their music is full of vivid rhythmic nuance, creative musical ideas, and the deft execution of challenging compositional material. It is music for both the heart and the mind.
